PM calls off trip - WHAT THE HELL ? - Stop lavish foreign travel on taxpayers’ dime

Main News : PM calls off trip to Europe over volcanic ash

Yousuf Raza Gilani called off his scheduled visits to three European countries because of the air traffic disruption caused by the Icelandic volcanic ash.

The arrogance shown by many of these so-called public servants. I understand the need for face-to-face meetings and on-the-ground experience in situations of international importance. What I do not understand is the need for luxury travel, cocktail parties at the Eiffel Tower, five-star hotels, snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands, all on the taxpayers’ dime.”

All I want is everyone who is consuming peoples money and taxes should stand accountable, show a productive points and actual EFFECTIVE RESULTS from the trip .

We are not rich people and the situation at the ground level every one knows , if they can not calculate the feasibility of every dim they spend then they dont deserve to be on that position to make such trips .

Hoping to get comments and suggestions :

1. How can we evaluate a successful trip?
2. Who should go on these trips ?
3. What is the feedback from other party ?
4. Most important Whats the final result ?

Sheikh Rasheed : Game Over ?

A salam o Alykum

Sheikh Rasheed is not just a name of a politician but a history , a story of self made person. One may disagree to his style of politics , his affiliation with dictators , his opportunistic nature and sometime selfish way of politics but he is among those few political leaders who come up from grass root level , work hard since their youth to achieve glory , a middle class person who is still living in same locality where he used to live in his youth era.
Watching him smoking a cigar , after his defeat in his own city where he ruled for more than 25 years , was not a pleasant scene for me at least.
Its a bit difficult for me to analyze the defeat of Sheikh Rasheed. It may be because of the reason that personally i do not agree that he lost the battle. I think he rightly said that he has already won by attracting attention of whole Punjab govt. , PML-N leader Nawaz shareef , President of Pakistan Asif Zardari , Whole Pakistani media just for one bi-election.

Who was asking for a representation of Rawalpindi in National Assembly ?

We have to consider the fact punjab govt headed by PML(n) did not want to organize this bi-election in the name of law & order situation and it was Sheikh Rasheed's effort because of which supreme court ordered to start election proceedings in this constituency. It was sheikh rasheed who brought electoral Christmas in this city where all routine activities were like a frozen snow under the shadow of suicide bombings. If residents of NA-55 would enjoy any benefits from their elected representative in future , they have to be thankful to sheikh rasheed for taking this issue to court and organizing election otherwise so called guardian of pindi PML(n) was not even in favor of this election.

Did he choose the right time to participate in election?

It may be a debatable point that whether he choose the right time for his participation in election or it was a bit early. He lost the election in 2008 with more than a margin of 60,000 votes .Are two years enough for his political recovery OR for unpopularity of his opponent party?Specially when he knew that he has to fight against a party who is heading the punjab government and it is almost impossible in Pakistani election to win a bi-election against a ruling party.
Some people may argue that he should have waited for next general election , it would give him more chance to recapture the attention of pindi people also after ruling for 4-5 years in government it would be very hard for PML(n) to regain its position in next general elections.
But personally i endorse his decision of contesting this election.I think this was the best time for telling his supporters that he is still in business and can get sheer amount of votes even against ruling party.

Was he aware of the possible results ?

Sheikh Rasheed is a seasoned politician and i do not think so that he was unaware of this result. If you look closely to Nawaz-Rasheed relationship in last couple of years , so its more about ego and self esteem rather than genuine politics. After the humiliating defeat in 2008 , Rasheed wants to prove his critics specially PML(n) that he has still enough fuel to worry central leadership of their party. It was not a shakeel awan vs sheikh rasheed but rather

Nawaz Shareef Ego Vs Sheikh Rasheed self-pride

Nawaz shareef wanted to humiliate him once again so he gave the ticket to an ordinary worker of PML(n) and was planning not to even focus on provincial level on this election , he was in state of arrogance where he thought that if he gives ticket to a dummy than people will vote to that dummy instead of sheikh rasheed.
But later due to intense focus of media on this constituency and extra ordinary efforts of sheikh rasheed which awoke shareef camp from their hang over.
Sheikh Rasheed wanted to give a jolt to peaceful bedrooms of Pml(n) camps through this election , he wanted them to feel his presence , feel his threat in rawalpindi , and surely he got success in it.He alone tackled 14 MPAs , 5 MNAs , dozens of bureaucratic officers of punjab government. Ch. Nisar , Khawaja Saad Rafique , Khawaja Asif , Haneef Abbasi , even Mian Nawaz Shareef himself have to take part in election campaign of their candidate. Its true that this bi-election was first of its kind which attracted so much attention in country politics with so much turn out.

His election strategy

I think he rightly played his cards , made alliances with Jamiat ulama islam,Tehreek-e-Jafria and other smaller but influential players.Praying on BB monument was a clever tactical gesture from him through which he was able to get support of local PPP workers.Though there are some rumors that he got votes from PPP , but i do not think so that workers go out to vote when their party is not participating. Even if he got support from PPP , the volume would not be more than 4-5 thousand votes maximum. He attracted the vote bank of Ijaz Khan Jazi(PTI) who got 12000 votes in last action and ended up around 7000 in this election , he got votes from religious factions , he got votes from those supporters who didn't come out in 2008 election to vote for him.He in his personal capacity has a vote bank of around 25-30,000 in this constituency and some 4000 votes from PTI , 5000 from JUI/JI/TNFJ and some 5000 votes from PPP can take him to 45,000 which he got in last.

Conclusion :

So over all it was a good brave heart effort from Sheikh Rasheed and i must respect and appreciate his will , against the ruling party and against all such realities which were favoring PML(n).
I do not believe that his game is over now.No , Not at all , he has been an influential person in Pakistani Politics and if he reconsider his standing specially his party usefulness than certainly he can bounce back in next general elections.

I would personally suggest to Sheikh Rasheed to join a political party to increase his vote bank , Otherwise it would again be a hard contest for him.
Its not only about people of Rawalpindi , People of Pakistan wants to se him in politics , arguing with his unique style , he is certainly a popular parliamentarian who can really benefit his people if works with honesty. We have so few middle class political workers in punjab and at least i do not want to see a political death of middle class politician in Punjab.

Note :

This is my personal opinion , not my party position on Sheikh Rasheed :-)

Reasons behind defeat of PTI in NA-55 ?

A salam o Alykum

I am really disappointed by PTI performance in latest election .not only disappointed but really sad , its not only a defeat for PTI as a party for all those people who wants to defeat the traditional political system of feudals , industrialists , family politics culture etc.But things will not be clear untill and unless PTI sincerely think about the reasons behind its defeat.

I think this is the time when PTI should come out of this “pandora” world and face the reality.Their Pathetic performance in NA-55 bi-elections is hard to digest but a truthful picture of their standing in national politics.
Their young members should acknowledge the fact that world of internet is far different than our real world.Winning polls on internet forums will not make them a genuine political party who have roots among people.Apart from their over confidence they committed few grave mistakes which i want to focus here one by one.

1 – PTI does not have any clear Opponent

It may sounds a bit confusing but thats the truth.PTI does not know to whom they should target in elections. They do not know their opponents in Punjab , in sindh , in NWFP , in balochistan , in GB , in AJK etc.Their members who likes to flood different political forums on internet are more busy in MQM bashing due to ethnic reasons rather than helping their own party in identifying their true rivals in national politics. The major blunder from PTI in this current bi-election was like a headless chicken who have no vision and cannot see whats ahead.Lets consider a scenario of cricket team as PTI has more expereince in this sport.
Consider there is a cricket team which is aiming to fight a very crucial match , they have been trying their best in nets and practicing since months , trying to find out best combination of batsmen and bowlers , stadium is full of spectators , all eyes on them , n that cricket team is unaware of the opponent they will face in ground , how would it sounds to you . WHAT , the team does not even know to whom they are fighting , than how can they prepapre for this match , how can they devise their strategy ? , well YES this is exactly the situation with Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf.

In current politics , they want to bring change in whole country , they want to target all poilitical parties , in all provinces , they want to change whole system , ignoring the ground realities of country.
Let me be specific about yesterday’s election . In NA-55 PTI did not identify any opponent to whom against they should run their campaign. There voters were confused that which policies they are favoring and which policies they are against.

Sheikh Rasheed was quite clear in his mind , he was targetting PML-N , and same for shakeel awan , he was focusing on sheikh rasheed rather than PTI and JI , they were running their campaign against each other where PTI and JI seemed to be “begani shadi me abdullah deewana” in this campaign.
PTI should have targetted PML-N , specially Nawaz Shareef , most of PTI workers targetted sheikh rasheed which benefitted PML-N candidate , i remember two days ago on insaf forum , one boy was saying that he will take copies of sheikh rasheed statements against benazeer and will distribute in rawalpindi streets , , well what this PTI member was thinking , to whom he was serving , certainly not PTI , because either PPP voters would have voted for PML-N or AML , but certainly not for extreme right wing parties like JI and PTI.

In my opinion , PTI should confront Nawaz League head on in Punjab , I think Nawaz League have rightly came to conclusion that they might face future opposition from PTI therefore they are talking for coalition with PTI.Yesterday Khwaja saad rafique very cleverly offered a coalition to PTI because they know the potential of PTI , but PTI themselves do not understand their force.

In Punjab , PTI should start opposing PML-N clearly , they have to beat Nawaz League if they want to come in govt. in any time in Pakistan.
In NWFP , it is ANP.
In Rural Sindh , they have to target PPP.
In Urban sindh , they should forget about winning untill next 20 years.

2 – Which Province to be given more priority ?

As i have suggested many times before , PTI should stop strange politics of bashing MQM and rather focus on national level. They have a good edge over MQM that they may be more popular than MQM in punjab , and Punjab is THE KEY in pakistani politics , One who grabs punjab will take government . Karachi is not the key . May be its hard to digest for PTI members but seriously PTI cannot beat MQM in Karachi in next 20 years , n its due to MQM performance at city districk government level , people of karachi wont like to see another one messing with CDGK , so they will stick to MQM.Anyway topic is not MQM performance in CDGK so i come to point that PTI should focus in those areas which matters in pakistani politics and at the same time they have a chance to win those areas.

Primary focus on NWFP

PTI has a very good chance in NWFP . This province has a culture of adopting new political ideas , electing those who come up with brand new , unknown and honest leadership , we have witnessed it many times inlcuding 2002 election when MMA swept across the province . A local imam of mosque defeated giants of ANP.So PTI should work hard to gather support in NWFP and than in election they should make an alliance with Jamat-e-Islami.Both are extreme right wing parties and by contesting election seperately they actually divide their voter base.So better to fight in election together.

Punjab :

As i have already discussed that Punjab is the KEY.You win in Punjab alone and you can rule the country. So PTI should focus in south and west punjab where nawaz league is not so strong and have a chance to defeat them.PTI can ask different independent candidates or honest politicians from PML-Q to join their ranks including sheikh waqas akram , Danial aziz , Hiraj brothers also they can make alliance with MQM in south Punjab but i know this sincere suggestion will be drowned under the sea of arrogance from PTI side.

Sindh :

In Rural Sindh they can opt for sindhi nationalist parties who are ready to leave “azad sindhudesh slogan” and now willing to take part in national politics .Rasool Bakhsh Palijo , Qadir Magsi or similar people who have no feudal background can contribute in making a good alliance .Although MQM is natural partner of PTI in rural sindh as well but again , arrogance is what the hurdle in their decision.

Balochistan :

In balochistan , PTI can ask nationalist parties like BNP(Dr Hayee group) or other parties which are not under the influence of Sardars and feudals.

3 – Choosing the right candidate

There may be two areas in whole pakistan where votes are not being casted on the basis of bradari system.

1-NWFP
2-Major urban centers (Karachi & Lahore)

But elsewhere people do consider their bradari system , sectarian issue , ethnic issue .So while choosing a candidate PTI should consider the ground realities of that area as well. You cannot implement the same rule in Karachi and Mansehra. Both have different demographics and different mindset of people.

Conclusion :

Its time for PTI to leave the politics of arrogance and come with real solution to “win elections” , talking , writing on internet , calling themselves as shaheen/tigers blabla will not change the scenario anymore. They should make political alliances wherever they need , they should select the right candidate , they should rightly identify the opponent in respective areas. Also an important factor , they should not go the etreme limit in politics so that they cannot return(am talking in reference to PTI MQM relationship) .

Suggestions for Upcoming Local Bodies Election , Karachi

Hello,
We all know that City District Govt. Karachi, under the local leadership of Syed Mustafa Kamal did a tremendous job for development of Karachi , with more than 2500 mega projects in less than 52 months is something unimaginable in political scenario of Pakistan , City nazim who developed this city from scratch was so honest that he didn't even took commission to make a house for himself.Syed Mustafa Kamal rizvi used to live in a rental house before he was City Mayor of Karachi and even after his tenure he didn't have his own house .This is also a historic example in corruption full society of Pakistan.
Now with all this praise to CDGK and vision of City Mayor Mustafa Kamal, its time to focus on future plans for Karachi.
Certainly there is lot of room for improvement in many sectors. We all have different ideas for development of our city.Lets share this vision with rest of the world and let them know that we Karachiites do care about our city.Lets compile some suggestions for upcoming LB elections.

1 - Transport Issue

  • Fly Overs , Bypasses , Expansion of roads will no longer be a permanent solution for this largest populated city of world.

  • We should go for "Mass Transit System" for Karachi.

  • Installing Metro Transport system should be first priority in next tenure of CDGK.

  • Improving the existing circular railway system , increase its access to distant parts of city e.g; Hub,sher shah,Kornagi,Steel twon,Kimari,Gadap,Surjani town etc.

  • Almost close all main roads for illegal crossing by walk from pedestrians, build underway crossing passes for pedestrians or people on bicycles or over head bridges.

  • Take main Railway track outside city or at least in less populated area of city , build fences alongside the railway track to avoid accidents.

  • Come up with a transport map of city Karachi on paper and electronic form to assist tourists and foreigners.

  • Ask Universities and colleges to start a private subsidized transport system for students , if there are already such system like in KU and in NED , number of buses should be increased to serve maximum possible students. An alternate method could be to have a metro stop near main universities and colleges.

  • Discourage pressure horns and implement the law strickly in using such horns near schools or hospitals.

  • Ban auto rickshaws or noise making public vehicles inside residential areas.

2 - Sports Activities

  • Build sports gymnasium in almost every sector of Karachi.

  • If its difficult to make gymnasium in every sector , atleast there should such a place where those sports can be played which require less space and cheap structures , e.g; a single concrete court can serve for basket ball , volleyball , hand ball , floor ball , badminton .

  • Build a jogging track in every sector for ladies only.

  • Motivate young people to play physical games rather than sitting in homes and playing computer games.

  • Ask every school taking fees more than 500 PKR to appoint at least one physical training teacher and to provide facility of sports to children.Should have a sports play ground or excellent indoor sports center for girls and boys.

3 - Food & Cultural Leisure Activities

  • As Karachi is known as Mini-Pakistan so there should be cultural representation of every community here.

  • Build at least 4 grand food streets in 4 corners of Karachi representing 4 provinces of Pakistan , specialized in food of each province , each food street should also be built in the local cultural style of each province. There should also be a main food street representing food culture of Karachi , best location can be Neti-Jeti bridge food street which is already construction.

  • Try to develop situation of water sports in Karachi , issue cheap rental boats for rowing and other water sports.

  • Develop beaches of Karachi , take care of cleanliness , provide sanitation facilities on every beach . First aid and rescue teams should be present on every spot.

4 - Beautification of City
  • Legislation against wall posters and wall chalking.Posters , hand bills or pamphlets should be distributed door to door if needed but should not be posted on walls , road sides , bridges , fly overs etc.
  • No flags of any political party , sect or organization should be allowed to fly on public places in normal days. Not even in Election days.Political parties may raise their flags on vehicles or homes but only during election campaigns.
  • Advertisement campaign on electronic and paper media about keeping your city clean, benefits of hygene and role of cleanliness in Islam or in any religion.

We are Pakistani

We are Pakistanis and this is a fact no man and no land can change. No matter what color we are or how we speak or what we wear and where we live we will always be Pakistanis. But now the question is whether or not we are proud to be a part of Pakistan.

Are we proud to belong to a nation formed by sweat and blood of the freedom fighters? Thanks to those fearless strong headed Pakistanis today we breadth the air of independence and walk the road of evolution.

Pakistan is a land of many miracles and wonders and one should never over look the fact that we are the people of Allah and this land was a gift to us from Him. How we were successful to get Pakistan and how it is still standing with a straight back are things not less than miracles. Many decades have passed but Pakistan managed to stand its ground no matter who ruled it or who bought it! We Pakistanis have a lot to be thankful for and not much to complaint about but sadly Pakistanis do just the opposite.

What really makes a Pakistani? Generations before us and generations after us will probably never know for we have taken Pakistan, the gifted land for granted.

In my opinion on this 14th august we should not pass with some music and good fun but ponder on the question; who a true Pakistani is and try our level best to achieve that goal.

We belong to Pakistan and InshAllah we will prove to be Pakistanis, as well!

Pakistan is the land of many gifts and we as Pakistani should do justice to it.

Brief History

"We are a nation", they claimed in the ever eloquent words of the Quaid-i-Azam- "We are a nation with our own distinctive culture and civilization, language and literature, art and architecture, names and nomenclature, sense of values and proportion, legal laws and moral code, customs and calendar, history and tradition, aptitudes and ambitions; in short, we have our own distinctive outlook on life and of life. By all canons of international law, we are a nation". The formulation of the Muslim demand for Pakistan in 1940 had a tremendous impact on the nature and course of Indian politics. On the one hand, it shattered for ever the Hindu dreams of a pseudo-Indian, in fact, Hindu empire on British exit from India: on the other, it heralded an era of Islamic renaissance and creativity in which the Indian Muslims were to be active participants. The Hindu reaction was quick, bitter, and malicious.

Equally hostile were the British to the Muslim demand, their hostility having stemmed from their belief that the unity of India was their main achievement and their foremost contribution. The irony was that both the Hindus and the British had not anticipated the astonishingly tremendous response that the Pakistan demand had elicited from the Muslim masses. Above all, they failed to realize how a hundred million people had suddenly become supremely conscious of their distinct nationhood and their high destiny. In channeling the course of Muslim politics towards Pakistan, no less than in directing it towards its consummation in the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, non played a more decisive role than did Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. It was his powerful advocacy of the case of Pakistan and his remarkable strategy in the delicate negotiations that followed the formulation of the Pakistan demand, particularly in the post-war period, that made Pakistan inevitable.
